Sapa is a town in the Hoang Lien Son Mountains of northwest Vietnam. Popular with trekkers, it overlooks the terraced rice fields of the Muong Hoa Valley, and is near the 3,143m-tall Fan Si Pan peak, climbable via a steep, multiday guided walk. H’mong, Tay and Dao hill tribes make up much of the local population.

A typical Muong Hoa Valley trek includes about 5 hours of walking with some altitude changes along the way. Some trails are steep and can be slick after rains. Local guides can be helpful with navigating the terrain and hiking-specific footwear is suggested during wet months.

Cat Cat Village is located about a mile (two kilometers) from Sapa Townlet in the Sapa District. Access to the village can be difficult for people with limited mobility, as roads are steep. Traditional dance performances take place daily at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
